Who Am I:  My Family’s Story

My name is Rochelle Curry.  I was born in Shiprock, NM.  I am one of six children.  I am a middle child.  I am Navajo.  I am now married to a wonderful man, Johnny, for almost 12 years.  I have three very smart, witty, beautiful, and fun girls.  They are Jordan, 8, Jadyn, 4, and Jessi, 11 months.  I currently reside in Kirtland.  I work for my father’s construction company in Farmington while going to UNM.

My parents, especially my father, were ridiculed for being Navajo so he wanted his children to receive a good education. I was put into public school.   Looking back I was exposed to many different methods teaching.  However, I remember the type where all desks were in a row with the teacher being very strict.  I didn’t take to well to that type of teaching.

I received my diploma and have Bachelors degree in Business Management.  I have used this knowledge since graduating from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1994.  I played basketball while attending college and have used his experience when coaching basketball and volleyball to elementary and high school students.  I found my passion in life and now pursuing a degree in education to become a teacher and expand instruction not only to athletes but to students in the classroom.

I have learned there are many methods of teaching and currently formulating what would suit me. More importantly, as an educator, I want to be flexible to teaching a variety of ways to meet students needs. With the education I am receiving I feel that there are a lot of resources available for all students.  I look forward to being in the classroom to see what difference I can make.
